FLEX. Logistics
We provide logistics services to online retailers in Europe: Amazon FBA prep, processing FBA removal orders, forwarding to Fulfillment Centers - both FBA and Vendor shipments.
Amazon's logistics empire is built on standardisation and efficiency. This philosophy extends to the types of vehicles permitted to deliver goods to its fulfillment centers. Using a non-compliant truck or van is one of the fastest ways to have your shipment rejected, leading to costly delays and rescheduling fees. This guide clarifies the main vehicle requirements across the EU network.
Â
Why Amazon Has Strict Vehicle Rules
Amazon's rules are designed to ensure safety, speed, and compatibility with their infrastructure. Loading docks are built to specific heights, and unloading processes are optimised for certain types of vehicles. Using the right vehicle ensures your delivery can be processed quickly and safely.
Common Vehicle Types and Their Roles
- Palletised Deliveries (LTL/FTL): This is the standard for most FBA inventory.
- Accepted: Articulated trucks (tractor-trailers) and 7.5-tonne rigid trucks are the workhorses of the FBA network. They must be capable of being unloaded from the rear at a standard loading dock.
- Often Restricted: Curtain-sided vehicles are often not permitted for pallet deliveries as they require side-unloading, which is not standard practice at most FCs.
- Loose Loaded/Small Parcel Deliveries (SPD):
- Accepted: Sprinter and transit-style vans are commonly used by sellers sending smaller shipments.
- FC-Specific Rules: Be aware that some large FCs have very specific rules. For example, a major German hub like FRA3 does not accept vans for loose loads, only allowing swap bodies.
Â
Key Considerations Before Booking Transport
- Always Check the FC's Specifications: Every fulfillment center has a unique spec sheet. What is accepted at a UK facility may be rejected in Germany. For example, double-deck trailers are common in the UK but less so in other regions.
- The "Not Accepted" List: Pay close attention to vehicles that are almost universally rejected for pallet deliveries. This includes private cars, flat-bed trucks, and any vehicle with a tail lift that obstructs access to the loading dock.
- Clear Carrier Communication: It is the seller's or their 3PL's responsibility to ensure the transport provider is fully aware of the specific requirements for the destination FC.
Â
